mio amore and me

Lately I've gotten a few requests for photos of P from friends and family, so I figured it was time to post another. You can also see another photo of him in my post Amore Mio in case you missed it.

Now here's the thing. I'm not very good at the holding out the camera in front of us and getting a good photo thing, so nine times out of ten P loses part of his head. And he didn't help things this time either as he thought the photo was already taken and turned his head before the click.

But I still kind of like it anyway.

Paolo and me
This was taken last Saturday at the Feast of Santa Caterina di Alessandria. Why yes, I do have more photos. Stay tuned!

30 days of thanks
Today I'm thankful for:

P.

What a sweet picture! You look cute together!! BTW...Love the new glasses ;)

Actually, I think the problems you mention are what make that picture interesting, resulting in a more unusual and natural composition (since he's only beginnig to turn, that adds movement while still being in front of the camera).

You're a nice couple.

Luigi

*Greg, thank you :)

*Robin, thanks, and my glasses? They are about five years old! I still haven't gotten a new pair....

*Luigi, thanks for your comments; I rather agree with you. Sure you would've seen him better had he been looking at the camera, but this way is much more interesting. I definitely have more luck than skill in snapping photos ;)

That is a very cute photo. You two make a very striking couple. I agree there is something special about the photo...less stagey (is that even a word?).

thanks for posting the photo! It's nice to put faces to the names (although I remember your other photos too). It's a very cute photo

Paolo looks dreamy and I love your new glasses!!!I got some new frames last month in Ciro'M. They're *cosi Italiano* and all my friends are jealous. Anyway, you guys are totally photogenic....and cute!!

oops.....guess I should read the other comments first. Well, still, your *old* glasses look great too!!!

I love it! You're a beautiful couple. And I love your glasses. I'm sort of regretting my recent glasses purchase. I bought some pretty crazy looking ones. I've yet to wear them!

What a GREAT picture. You guys are a sharp looking pair! You need a family photo with the dogs.

I hate taking my own photo with my arm stretched out. Nine times out of ten, you can tell that I took it... probably because that sneaky second chin pops out. Eww
If you hadn't mentioned that you took the photo yourself, I would never have been able to tell. Great job!
You two make such a lovely couple. :)

I actually like pictures where people aren't necessarily looking at the camera. When I was dating my last boyfriend, I always wanted a good close-up casual-looking photo of us looking at each other instead of the camera. He thought I was insane.

Off the topic, but something I've been wanting to ask you for a while, your blog always loads very, very slowly for me. Do you not have that same problem? (I thought if you're on dial-up, I'm surprised it isn't a problem for you.) I don't always click over from Bloglines to comment because it just takes so long for the page to display. :-( Maybe it's just me.

What I was going to say has already been said, but I'm going to say it anyway because...well, because.

I love the picture, and it really does have a more "natural" feel than a posed photo would. And the way he's sort of looking at you, with that "look" in his eyes...you can't plan that stuff. LOVE IT.

I love this picture. It's very natural looking.

I LOVE that pic of you two! You certainly make a nice looking couple. :-) Thanks for sharing! Definitely post more when you can.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon as well -- a very attractive couple. I too dig those glasses of yours (why get new ones?) and I just love that P has pulled his glance.

I had an opposite experience with my boys a few years back. I was taking a shot of them against a big stone wall. I asked them to look off camera in different directions (I thought it would add texture). Instead the youngest looked at the camera while the eldest kept looking off. It turned out to be a great shot, so much better that way. Perhaps accidents aren't accidents at all.

I LOVE it! That's such a good picture.
P's head being turned gives it depth and scope.
very nice.

I think it's a stunning photo!

I think the photo is fantastic! It's pensive, sweet, soft and definitely full of amore. Voi siete una copia bella!

What a great picture! You look so good together!

He face seems narrow, full of interesting angles, yours, soft cures, smooth, your features open. Your smooth, defined shaped glasses, to his beard. His jacket, (from here) tweedy textured, yours soft smooth. I like all these contrasts so close together, so a part of each other.
I notice the interesting shape of his eyes, but it is the interest in your eyes that holds. As he looks away from camera (toward you?), but you look out, meeting the camera with your gaze.

What a beautiful couple you two are. :)

Che bella! Questa foto mi piace veramente moltissimo!

A slight side turn gives the picture extra personality and character, I like it :)

Hmmm, Expat Jane tagged me with a "The Face Behind The Blog" meme, maybe I should take your lead and do the same :)

I always felt there was something empowering about anonymity! Now I disagree... isn't it funny how our opinions change over time?

Lovely pic Sognatrice :)

Well, we already knew that P was a handsome devil but look at you! You're adorable! And the other commenters are right, you two do make a gorgeous couple. :)

OK...I came across your blog through Caroline's and I was immediately enchanted.

It is wonderful...good writing, (good recipes) and Italy...what is more beautiful.

Expect repeat visits.

Great meeting you...

*Heart* it!
It's a real treat to see a photo of the two of you. The best photos are always those where an unexpected or unplanned moment is captured.
The glasses are smart. *Heart* those too.
Love to you both.

Oh, that's a beautiful picture. Of course, the way P's head is cropped and the way he seems to be looking at you, or just past you but from a position very much with you, it does make your face the focal point, but in a very loving and engaging way. I would not have known you took the picture yourself if you had not said so.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey look, it's a picture of LOVE! :-)

You are both beautiful.

Great photo of you two! :)

Angelo walked by as it was loading in and blurted, 'Now that's a real southern Italian man!' and then, 'She's cute!'

Which is a compliment from Angelo, since he, too, is a southern Italian man. :)

Gorgeous Couple!

All my (past) pics with friends in America were always with full teeth and everyone looking straight into the camera - but here in Italy I notice candid, unfocused, people looking pensive, away from the camera, etc., are not "mistakes" - they are just pictures, and life! This is a good one.

Though we have to meet one day - I have to say every picture I've seen of you is completely different from the next so I'm not sure what you in person looks like! :)

Blogger BipolarLawyerCook said...

I like the way he is looking at you. And, yay, glasses! Boys do make passes at girls who wear glasses.

You should hold that camera out in front of you more often. I am not missing that part of P's head. The rest of him looks just fine, thank you.

Great glasses! I've got some red ones just like them.

You guys look great! I love a black and white photo. Since Ed and I are often alone without someone to snap a shot for us, I have become the master of teetering my camera on a rock, in the crook of a tree limb, on top of a car or the fender of our truck, etc. and then using the timer mode to get us both in the shot. It works 80% of the time!

Keept more pictures of you guys coming - I like the very personal aspect it gives your blog. It gives me one more reason to be enchanted with your life!

Blogger Concetta said...

Wonderful photo, thank you for sharing it with us (Paolo is getting braver too? ;-)... and to repeat what so many others have already said (but I must), you guys are a gorgeous couple!

Well thank all of you for comments; I'm a bit behind, so I'll just address those comments that just cry out for a response ;)

*Judith, MAGARI!!!!

*Alexmom, I'm glad to hear you ended up getting a pair while here :)

*Nino, I've gotten some crazy glasses too--they just take a while to get used to. Actually, when I got the ones in this photo (5 years ago!) they were kind of edgy and strange...if you can imagine ;)

*Giulia, that second chin has a mind of its own with those arms-length photos....

*Pat, P thanks you for that last comment ;)

*Stefanie, actually I'm not on dial-up, but even when I was, my blog didn't load particularly slowly. I'm working on it, in any event....

*David, I love the story of your photo with your boys :) As for getting new glasses, I actually need a new prescription, and also, after 5 years, I'm bored with these. But we'll see.

*Taffiny, wow, all that from a silly "Just one more try!" photo ;)

*Leo, welcome! So happy you're enjoying your time here :)

*Lissa, thanks for the link, but I think I'll just make P suffer with this method for a while ;)

*Tui, hah! Well P most certainly is southern Italian. And I'll take the compliment as well ;)

*Vee, you're the first of a few to note how different I look in this photo...even my mom said the photo doesn't look like me! And I didn't Photoshop, I swear!

*Debbie, one of my friends says Adrian Brody....

*Sara, I agree that the unposed are definitely more fun--you get to feel what was going at the time more. Ah, and as I wrote to Vee above, don't worry, even my mom said this photo doesn't look like me. I think it's the glasses and the fact that I'm not really smiling. People tend to not recognize here when I'm wearing my glasses which is saying something in a town of 300 people!

*BLC, P actually prefers when I wear my glasses--isn't that awesome? No dry, itchy contact eyes *and* love? *sigh*

*Karen, you always make me smile :)

*Ranter, we're going to start experimenting with the timer soon. P has so little patience for photo-taking, but I'll convince him! Hopefully we'll take more around the holidays :)

*Concetta, P isn't braver...just in the dark about what I'm doing with the photos ;)

Thanks again for all your comments!
