To all my fellow females, Happy International Women's Day!
Far be it from me to speculate as to why this worldwide holiday isn't celebrated the United States, but I assure you, here in Italy, it's a big deal.
It's called la Festa della Donna, and it's the day when women of all ages are honored with dinners, girls' nights out, auguris, and, of course, flowers--in particular, the exploding-with-joy yellow mimosa, the international symbol of the day.
We have a few mimosa trees in the piazza here and normally they're in bloom just in time for March 8, but this year's mild winter had them full of yellow in January, and so now, sadly there are no more mimosa.
But I thought ahead so I could give all of my favorite women (you're one if you're reading this!) a little love for this International Women's Day, so I snapped this photo on January 20:
Now for you fellas that are reading--you have some appreciating to do.

I appreciate you Sognatrice.
Thank you for the flowers!
Happy LT & International Women's Day! I hope your day is wonderful and full of love.
No mimosas? Ours are in full bloom now! I guess it has been a little warmmer down your way.
Just wanted to stop in and wish you a very happy Woman's Day!

If you were closer I would invite you along to our dinner tonight, where I am to meet three new to me women. Maybe next year I should drive down there and celebrate us in a brighter place? And I want Cyndi to come, too.
Thanks! I love your pictures. They brighten my dreary mountain days.
Happy love Thursday and International Women's Day.
Happy International Women's day to you too! Have a lovely day!!!
Great tree....
They are celebrating here in Sicily but it is a strange way to celebrate women. I wonder what went wrong...shall I say dinner and a strip show? Am I getting too old to think this is all wrong?

Happy women's day Sognatrice! I was going to blog about this very thing this morning but didn't have time. Everyone always asks why we don't celebrate in the U.S. when it supposedly started as a way to remember women who died in a sweatshop fire in America. What I do know is that if we celebrated in the U.S., it would include being treated like a princess all day (breakfast in bed, hello) and not be about going to eat pizza and see a strip show with the girls! What's up with that? My mother-in-law has to make dinner for her husband before she can go eat pizza with the amiche. Of course she's happy to do it but doesn't that defeat the point? Eek!
We celebrate March 8th too! Happy Int. Women's day to you too.
Happy Woman's Day.
Happy women's day. I think it should be celebrated in the United States but everyday. :)
Happy Women's Day to you too! I agree, it should be celebrated in the states or at least in my house! Beautiful picture!
Every day, every day should be la Festa della Donna. All women but a few in particular. I am a lucky guy and I know it, every day.
Have a wonderful International Women's Day.
I have never heard of this holiday, but it is going on my calendar now! I want some flowers too!
This picture is beautiful - something about yellow blossoms. Also, thanks for the information. I am off to tell everyone that I know.
My compliments!
Strangely, it is "celebrated" in Canada - but usually just in the newspapers and within federal government buildings (where I am when I'm not on maternity leave). Sounds much better in Italy. I'd like to see it spread properly here. Happy Woman's Day!
Happy Love Thursday...
I loved reading your posts!
Happy Love Thursday and WOMEN'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Thisi s the first I've heard about Intl Womens Day, thanks for enlightening me! Sounds like a holiday we should all celebrate.
thanks for stopping by my blog and for celebrating women's day with me! I have spent the past two summers in Italy and loved it... I hope to visit again with my family!
